展覧会概要

『暮らしをする』

今の家に住みはじめて3年ほど経ちました。

当たり前ですが内見で家に来た時は何も物がなく、間取りや壁の質感がやけにはっきりと見えたのを覚えています。

そこから３年間生活する間に色々な物が家に増えていきました。調理器具や食器、衣類に本、地方で買った土産品…。

−何もなかったこの家に私の生活が重なっていく

そんな感覚がありました。

私はそれを表現すべく、いちばん多くの時間を過ごしている居間の壁に紙をあてて、家にあるものをフロッタージュで描きおこしていきました。家の質感と生活の物物を合体させる、そんなイメージで。

そうして出来た作品たちを繋いで吊るして、実際の居間と同じ形にしていく。

この作品を展示室で組み立てたら、いつも座っている位置でお茶を飲もう。

Exhibition Overview

”Living/Printing a Life”

It has been about three years since I moved into my current home.

When I first visited the space during the viewing, it was completely empty. I remember clearly how the layout and textures of the walls stood out so vividly in the absence of any belongings.

Over the years, my life began to fill that emptiness—gradually, naturally. Cooking tools, dishes, clothes, books, souvenirs from travels… the everyday items that make up a life quietly accumulated.

—My life layering itself onto a once-empty home.

That sensation became the foundation for this work.

To express it, I pressed paper to the walls of the room I spend the most time in—the living room—and used frottage to trace the shapes and surfaces of objects from my daily life. I wanted to merge the textures of the house with the tangible evidence of my living within it.

The resulting works were then connected, suspended, and arranged to reconstruct the shape of my living room.

And when I install this piece in the gallery, I plan to sit in my usual spot and have a cup of tea—just as I do at home.

Artist Biography

Born in 1990, Shunichi Iwata is an artist currently based in Chiba, Japan.He graduated from Musashino Art University with a B.F.A. in Oil Painting in 2015, and completed his M.F.A. in Printmaking at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2018.
